As you already know, icons are often necessary design elements and using them in your designs comes with a lot of advantages when they are correctly implemented. In Issue #20 of Rooki, we wrote about how to use icons in your designs.
But, creating your own icons/icon sets can be extremely time consuming and is a practice in itself. Luckily for us, there are plenty of excellent FREE icon resources we can use to help get our projects up and running quickly.
Here are my Top 10 resources for free icons in 2020:
1. Icon8

Icon8 does an awesome job of pairing a chosen icon with a family of icons that share the same style characteristics. This has saved me a ton of time from having to find icons that pair perfectly.

2. Font Awesome

Font Awesome is a font and icon library that offers code snippets to use their icons with inline elements. In other words, these can easily be used on the web alongside text naturally.

3. Noun Project

The Noun Project offers a vast and highly diverse collection of icons. The site is run by a group of people passionate about language & symbols. With new icons added daily, this is one of my favorite sites to check for high-quality icon options.

4. Material Icons Library

Material Icons Library takes the icons used directly in Google's Material Design system and separates them based on categories.

5. Boxicons

Boxicons provides a large collection of vector icons designed for both designers and developers that are highly customizable. They even provide a basic animation library to add to any icon which can be easily exported to code!

6. Remix Icon

Remix Icon has a very clean set of neutral-style system icons. With 1,900+ options derived from the same styles, you won't have to search through a database to find pairings.

7. Keyicons

A free library of clean and simple SVG icons. These are great to quickly use for system icons or basic app functions in a project.

480+ icons which tie into the Eva Design System. These icons are designed to be used for common actions in items found in today's UIs.

9. useAnimations

A great selection of animated icons that can be used across apps (iOS & Android) and websites. These icons all use the Lottie framework, which means their animations are fully customizable using Adobe AE and Lottie!

10. Flat Icon

Flaticon is a HUGE icon library of over 2.4 million vector icons available in a wide range of formats (PNG, SVG, EPS, PSD, and BASE 64). I often use this as a last resort if I am looking for something particular due to its extensive searchable database.
